How WARDOGS Scoring Works: You Can Earn Money Without Kills
Scoring only counts bodies inside the zone, one point per 30 seconds. Recon, assists and cross-team kills all pay, so kills are not required to earn.

Remember three numbers. Whoever has more bodies in the zone scores. One point every 30 seconds. First to 100 wins. Kills do not score. That is the first thing most new players get wrong.
How scoring actually works
Open the map and the big circle in the middle is the hill. More living players inside means your team is scoring.
- Bottom left of the screen shows how many living players each team has inside.
- The largest count scores, one point every 30 seconds.
- First team to 100 ends the match.
So standing in the circle is a contribution by itself. You can help win without firing.
Why you earn money without kills
This is the biggest difference from other shooters. The developer is explicit: teamplay pays.
- Reviving teammates.
- Transporting friendlies to the zone.
- Controlling the objective.
- Unloading supply crates.
- Simply staying inside the zone slowly pays too.
Cash carries between matches. A logistics-only player can end up richer than a player who only duels.
The hidden value of recon
| What you do | What it pays |
|---|---|
| Mark enemies with binoculars | Puts targets on the whole team radar |
| Someone else kills your marked target | You still get XP and money |
| Stand inside the Hot Zone | Your body counts as two |
| Drag the Hot Zone to your side | Your whole team scores faster |
Key point: if another team kills the player you marked, you still get paid. Most people do not know this, which is why they undervalue recon.
Assists and cross-team kills
Say you are on blue and you mark a red player. Green ends up killing him.
You still get XP and money. The system rewards participation, not the last bullet.
That changes how you should play solo. Stop chasing kills. Just make sure your team can see.
Three things people mix up
- Kills are not points. Kills pay money; the score follows bodies in the zone.
- The Hot Zone counts one player as two. The small golden circle inside the zone moves during the match. Standing in it doubles your weight.
- You can earn while losing. Cash settles on what you did, not on the result.
Hold those three and your first match plays completely differently.
Sources and boundaries
Headcount scoring, one point per 30 seconds, first to 100, doubled Hot Zone weight and cash for revives, transport and objective control come from the Steam store page. How to read the scoreboard, cross-team kill income, the value of recon marking and the whole “earn without kills” explanation come from the creator tutorial The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to WARDOGS (Fallout Plays, 2026-09-15). The practical detail that you still get XP and money when another team kills your marked target comes from that video’s YouTube comments.
This page only covers how scoring relates to money. For zone positioning and rotation see the Control Zone guide; for spending see the cash economy guide. Exact values can shift with patches. The embedded video is the creator tutorial (fUKgHeT0JGY).
