WARDOGS After 35 Hours: Is It Worth Staying For?

A 35-hour player verdict: huge potential and a rare pace, but drill balance, server quality and unused map space are the real problems.

WARDOGS After 35 Hours: Is It Worth Staying For? video

Short answer: yes, WARDOGS is worth staying for. One condition. You have to accept that it is not finished. A creator who put 35 hours in said it plainly: huge potential, a feel of its own, and very specific problems.

What is left after 35 hours

His line was that the game is “kicking the ass of every other game in my Steam library”. Not because of graphics. Not because of content. Because of pace.

  • Want speed? Grab a Galil, fill your pockets with ammo, chase the Hot Zone.
  • Want slow? Lie on a hill and snipe, Arma style.
  • Want serious? Plan the loadout, fly in, read the fight.

Three experiences in one match. That is what keeps people.

What it gets right

AreaHow players describe it
Pace rangeRun-and-gun and slow hold both work; nothing forces a style
Match varietyThree teams plus a randomised Control Zone keeps repeats rare
ProgressionWeapons, vehicles and building form a system, not cosmetics
Voice chatAll three teams can hear each other, so comedy and tactics mix
GunfeelLighter than Arma, heavier than Battlefield

What is wrong

One: the drill is too strong. He used it himself and still admitted that too many of them break a match. A viewer suggested a simple fix: cap how many you can build.

Two: server quality swings hard. He mentions his server being hit, and that “some games are incredible, some are a nightmare”. A commenter put it best: the first four days were the best gaming of his life, yesterday every match was hell.

Three: the map is huge and only the centre gets used. One comment says it flat out: “256 km² and we only play in the middle.” That is not a small thing. It means vehicles and terrain are still being wasted.

What players are saying

The top comments are more honest than the video.

  • “I’m 52 and I played 18 hours straight on my day off.” He says the last time he did that was Warhammer Online in his thirties.
  • “The game is fine. Everyone has a way to counter what they hate. Stop complaining because you are bad at it.”
  • “Cap the number of drills.”
  • “256 km² and only the centre. Big L.”

Our take: these comments all point the same way. The core loop already works. The arguments are all around the edges. Drills, servers and map usage are patchable. The hard part to change is the pace, and the pace is exactly what it got right.

Should you sink hundreds of hours in now

  1. If you want every match to feel different: yes. Three teams plus random zones keeps repetition low.
  2. If server stability matters most: pick community servers first. Staffed servers handle griefers and mess far better.
  3. If balance matters most: accept that it is still being tuned. Drills, vehicles and sniping will all move.

If all three are acceptable, commit. If any one is not, play a few dozen hours before deciding.

Sources and boundaries

Game mechanics and the three-team Control Zone structure come from the Steam store page. The 35-hour experience, the drill verdict, the server situation and the map criticism come from the creator video We should talk about Wardogs… (BigfryTV, 2026-09-15) and are one creator’s experience. Comment quotes come from that video’s YouTube comments, sorted by likes. Player-count and sales numbers mentioned inside the video disagree with other sources, so this page does not treat them as fact.

This page is about the long-term decision, not the purchase decision. For buying, see the pre-purchase checklist; for server state, see post-launch state. The embedded video is the creator’s assessment (rtDSRGOYR5k).
